Welcome to Western Civ!

First day of semester 2! What else does this mean, ah yes Western Civilization. What did we do today on class? First we got ginormous textbooks, which will most likely cause me back problems in the future, then we were introduce to the 3 new students in the class. I’m really not excited about these textbooks because I hate lugging things to and from school. Next I had to read about Greece so here are my notes:
Cultures of Mountains and the Sea
·        Ancient Greece consisted mainly of a mountainous peninsula jutting out into the Mediterranean sea
·        Greece could never support a large population

The Sea
·        The sea shaped Greek civilization
·        They did not live on land, but around the sea
·        Aegean, Ionian, And Black Seas are important routes of transportation
·        Sea travel was important
The Land
·        Rugged mountains covered ¾ of Greece
·        Uneven terrain made land transportation difficult
·        Little fertile soil and scarce fresh water
The Climate
·        Varied climate

·        Supported outdoor life
